What is an actor's most powerful tool? THE VOICE.
Through your vocal cords - those tiny little membranes no bigger than your thumbnail - you communicate, you emote, you project every single sound you've ever made. But how often do you really think about your voice, and how it works?
You perpetually express your emotions through your voice, whether you mean to or not. It's in our daily language.
"Are you sure you're OK? Because you sound upset."
"Are you serious right now? Because you sound really sarcastic."
"You say you're fine, but you sound weird."
You sound. You sound. You sound.
Of course we don't think about this in our day to day lives because it's primal. It's organic. But an actor must always be conscious of their voice. The breath, diaphragmatic support, timbre control, vocal placement... all play a part in the performance, and having the knowledge of how all of these things work is essential to an actor. Simply put, an actor needs a strong and versatile voice, and I'll help you to strengthen it and have complete control over it.

Why do I need voice lessons? I'm an actor, not a singer.
An actor needs the same vocal control as a singer! Don't you need to be consistent and dynamic? Don't you need to project, emote, have vocal stamina, and above all, have the confidence that your voice will be there for you at all times? We never appreciate and respect our voices until we loose them. What do you do on performance day and you're losing your voice??
At times you'll need to project emotional dialogue, like yelling or screaming, without tiring or damaging your voice. If you don't understand how to bridge between your chest and head voice, you risk vocal issues like hoarseness and possibly permanent vocal damage.
What else will I learn?
- I'll teach you about every aspect of your voice so you have complete control over your instrument.
- You'll start to see your dialogue as music, and you'll learn to find the melody, the cadence, and the dynamics in your "songs."
- You'll learn how to deal with difficult vowels and consonants that "squash" your voice.
- You'll learn to mold every line of dialogue so that it has a hook - no different than a great song!
P.S. Being able to sing never hurts to have on your list of special skills!
